NYC Bees Newsletter: October slate, Into a Bar pod, Fanzone, best PL start

Hello NYC Bees!

I know we're eager to get back to league play after this lengthy international break. Here are some bits of news for you as we head into October!

October schedule: Five games in three weeks
Our club's depth will be put to the test with four league games and a Carabao Cup match, all in the span of about three weeks in October. We'll be back at The Red Lion, 151 Bleecker St., on Oct. 10 for our road match against Aston Villa. We're also slated for a weekday watch event for our fourth-round Carabao Cup fixture against Sunderland on Oct. 28.

As of this writing, Paramount Plus has yet to list its full coverage. Hopefully with just eight games remaining in the event, we'll definitely be on the broadcast this time. Stay tuned to our social media channels for the latest.

One thing to keep in mind between NYC and England in October: We will have a four-hour time difference (not five hours) from London because of their daylight saving time through part of the month. Those details are spelled out in the schedule graphic.

Best PL start for Brentford
Thanks to our 3-0 home victory against Chelsea on Sept. 18, we have posted the best five-game start in Brentford's Premier League history! Our 9 points (and plus-6 goal differential) puts us in fourth place in the table. It also marks the first time Brentford has an unbeaten opening five games to a PL season. Newcomer Jaidon Anthony, 2025-26 PL Golden Boot runner-up Thiago, and Fabio Carvalho all notched their first league goals of the season to upend Chelsea. We already have seven different goalscorers in PL action.

New pod: A Soccer Fan Walks Into A Bar
As we keep expanding with this group, our outreach with some new media and show opportunities is fortunately growing, as well. This past month, I joined A Soccer Fan Walks Into A Bar, which is headed by Dave Mires, the founder of the Bournemouth New York supporters' group in the Hudson Valley. I was on the Sept. 10 show as a prelude to our road match against the Cherries. Our supporters' group will likely rejoin Dave in March, as well. It was great to connect, especially with someone who has a heavy role in promoting the sport at his establishment in Newburgh, N.Y.!

Return to PL Fanzone on Peacock
So last season, our very own Dan Mitzelman had just a brief cameo with the folks at Premier League Fanzone. Fortunately this time around, they brought him back for a much lengthier segment! He joined Fanzone's Monday crew with Anita Jones and Leroy Rosenior on Sept. 21 (live on Peacock) to cap off our memorable weekend win over Chelsea. Great job on the show, Dan! If others are interested in participating, please let us know and we can connect you with PL Productions!

September fixtures, return to PL Fanzone, transfer window closes

Hello again NYC Bees! We've seen some early signs that this could be a special season, and September should be a good gauge to see where this club is headed. Here's everything to get you up to speed!

Potential for four Red Lion meet-ups in September
Brentford has four September matches on the docket, three in league play and a third-round Carabao Cup game. The Premier League matches are confirmed with The Red Lion, 151 Bleecker St., and IF Paramount Plus broadcasts the Sept. 15 match against Reading, we will meet at the pub for that as well! Stay tuned to our social media channels for that verification. As of this writing, Paramount Plus has not publicized which Carabao Cup games are tagged for individual broadcasts. See the graphic for our full schedule.

Diouf signing caps off transfer window; Sangare shines
Brentford didn't need to reach the final hours of the transfer window to figure out some necessary pieces to bring in. The club secured midfielder Mamadou Sangare at the beginning of August, and on Aug. 28, the Bees brought in left back and Senegal international El Hadji Malick Diouf from West Ham. Diouf did make the bench for Brentford's most recent match at Leeds, but hasn't made his debut just yet. Sangare, on the other hand, has been an immediate revelation, notching an assist and earning Man of the Match accolades during Brentford's season-opening 3-0 win against Tottenham.

Between the strong returning nucleus and the investment toward Diouf, Sangare, and the likes of Jaidon Anthony and Jannik Schuster, the optimistic vibes have certainly been prevalent in the early stages of 2026-27!

Bees legend Pinnock heads to Coventry City
After seven seasons with Brentford, center back Ethan Pinnock completed a move to Coventry City late last month. Pinnock was a crucial part of the Bees' promotion and early Premier League seasons, joining the club in 2019. The Jamaica international made 216 appearances for Brentford in all competitions. "He has been one of the modern-day greats of the club, and I have always appreciated him for the qualities he has as a player and a man," head coach Keith Andrews said.

Good luck, Ethan! (except when you face us)

Back on Premier League Fanzone
Thanks to Brentford's strong start, the good folks at Premier League Fanzone connected with us immediately for their first Monday show of the campaign. I joined hosts Anita Jones and Leroy Rosenior for their Aug. 24 show, live on Peacock stateside, to recap the Bees' victory over Tottenham Hotspur. Rosenior also threw a nice Bees-Spurs question to close out the segment, too!

If any of you would like to take part in this program, please reach out as I've had a longstanding connection with their production team and have contributed to a bunch of shows over the years! Fanzone is live on Mondays and Fridays, but we've focused more heavily on the early part of the week: Monday's crew provides a better platform and longer Brentford-focused segments when we're booked.

Brentford News & Notes
Unbeaten start through two:
For the first time since the 2023-24 Premier League season, the Bees have opened the campaign with an unbeaten two-game stretch. Brentford steamrolled Tottenham Hotspur, 3-0, with goals from Keane Lewis-Potter, Vitaly Janelt and Michael Kayode. The scoreline easily could have been more lopsided. Then on Aug. 30, Kevin Schade scored an impressive first-half goal, but the Bees had to settle for a 1-1 road draw against Leeds.

Collins, Bees roll in Carabao Cup: Led by two goals from center back Nathan Collins, Brentford went on the road for a smooth-sailing 6-1 victory over Birmingham City on Aug. 25 in the second round of the Carabao Cup. Callum Wilson, Aaron Hickey, Mikkel Damsgaard and Thiago supplied the other goalscoring, while Jaidon Anthony recorded three assists in his Brentford debut. The Bees' depth will need to come through again on Sept. 15 at Reading in the third round; it's the second of three Brentford matches in a seven-day stretch.

1st-place Brentford Women return to Gtech: The Brentford Women have scheduled another fixture at Gtech Community Stadium, coming up on Sept. 27 when they host Newhaven. This is their second season in the fifth-tier London and South East Premier Division. The Bees flirted with another promotion last season, and this season they are atop the league table through three games. Their most recent performance was a dominant 8-2 win at Aylesford. It's still early, but keep a close eye for a potential jump into Level 4 of the football pyramid when 2026-27 is wrapped up. Fingers crossed!

Quick hits: Brentford defender Jayden Meghoma has joined Championship side Portsmouth on a season-long loan. The 20-year-old left back will team alongside fellow Brentford loanee Benjamin Arthur. ... If the Premier League Fan Fest is your thing, it'll be a bit longer of a trip to make. Denver is hosting the event on Oct. 10-11 at Union Station. Brentford's front office usually makes the stateside trip, so if you're interested, we'll pass along any club-focused details.
