WPS CHAMPIONSHIP: SKY BLUE FC 1, SOL 0

New Jersey-based Sky Blue FC completed its Cinderella Story finish to the Women’s Professional Soccer season, defeating regular-season champion Los Angeles Sol, 1-0, on Saturday in the WPS Championship. Elk Grove Village native Jen Buczkowski (4) celebrates the WPS title with her Sky Blue FC teammates Saturday. The Notre Dame alum and the New Jersey defense handed the Sol their second shutout loss of the inaugural 2009 WPS season.

Naperville native Brittany Bock (11) of the Sol battles for the ball against Sky Blue’s Rosana. Bock was given a yellow card in the 52nd minute for bumping into Sky Blue goalkeeper Jenni Branam as she was going for a header near the goal. Also a Notre Dame alum, Bock scored two goals during the regular season.
