IRELAND EDGES RED STARS

The Chicago Red Stars out-shot the Ireland Women's National Team, 16-2, on Sunday. But it was Ireland that tallied the game's lone goal in a 1-0 exhibition victory over the Women's Professional Soccer squad at Benedictine University in Lisle.

Ireland's Aine O'Gorman scored on a breakaway in the 40th minute for a lead that held up the rest of the way. Ireland's only two shot attempts were on goal, while the Red Stars managed only two shots on goal, as well.

Red Stars head coach Emma Hayes made sure to spread around the playing time in this friendly. Caroline Jonsson and Lydia Williams split goalkeeping duties, with Williams recording the team's only save of the day in the second half.
